About
During WWI approximately 1600 black South Africans gave their lives to the imperial forces. In memory of the deceased, one walks through the memorial and experiences the crushing weight of the slab against the tension of the rods keeping it afloat: embodying the fragility of life and loss. The proposal was placed in the Top 10 for the War Graves Memorial Competition.
